Walk and talk about conservation in the city!

We’re really excited to have teamed up with Sport Northland to encourage people to walk and talk – about helping Whangārei become predator free!

The first event we’re taking part in is the annual Chilltech Beach 2 Basin fun run and walk on Saturday 15 March. The Chilltech Beach 2 Basin is part of the annual Sport Northland Run/Walk Series and we’re hoping to spread the word about Tiakina Whangārei to the 2000+ participants who take part each year. The walk starts at the Onerahi Yacht Club (10km walk/run) or Onerahi Tavern (6.8km walk/run) and finishes at the Whangārei Town Basin, and is a great opportunity to raise the profile of Tiakina Whangārei and let people know how they can be a part of the action. Look out for our gazebo at the finish line, and fun fact signs along the walk! If you’re keen to enter, you can sign up here.

We already have some amazing conservation projects happening in Onerahi at Dragonfly Springs and Matakohe Limestone Island, so spreading the word in this suburb is a great way to build on this awesome mahi and expand it into new backyards. We’re also looking at a new initiative to make the whole of Onerahi Predator Free… watch this space!

The next event on the Tiakina Whangārei / Sport Northland calendar will be the Parihaka Trail Run on 7 June, an event suited for all fitness levels with three distances on offer, the BDO Half Marathon, the Fireco 12km and a 5km option. Check it out here.
