About Tiakina Whangārei

Tiakina means ‘to care for’ or ‘look after’, which is exactly what we want to achieve in Whangārei.

Why? Well, Whangārei is possibly the best city in New Zealand to live in. Located where the Hatea River enters the Whangārei Harbour, flanked by significant forests, with a pest-free island in our harbour that is a kiwi crèche – there is a lot going on ecologically.

There is, however, a significant opportunity to for us to enhance the connection we have with our city through conservation activities. This will not only increase our environmental awareness and appreciation of our amazing city, but also protect and promote the native biodiversity that exists here, and help build community cohesion.
